What does Autumn Mean for You?

The dew is heavy in the morning, there is a nip in the air.

Jackets are a good idea if you are going to be out after dark. The sun is in your eyes during your commute now and the days are getting shorter.

Soon, many will be freezing while watching the kids’ football games. Daylight savings time is about to end and Halloween is just around the corner.

With the onset of autumn  we are all preparing for the change of weather.

Mother nature has a built in clock, a timing all her own. This energy affects all of us.

  • The fireweed in Alaska predicts the first snow fall within days, giving you three weeks notice.
  • The swallows of Capistrano, after traveling thousands of miles for months, arrive the same day every year.
  • The penguins in the Antarctic march for days across an ever changing icy landscape from many different directions, all gathering in the same spot every year. All within a week.

The fall colors will soon be announcing the arrival of cold weather. Most of the country is taking care of details needing to be addressed before winter sets in like clearing off the deck furniture, raking leaves, and installing the storm windows.

Here in the desert, areas like Phoenix, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas,  we have different signs of Autumn.

The grass is being cut and reseeded for the winter season. Soon the  annuals will be planted for the second time this year and the fields tilled for fall crops.

The nights are beautiful and the days are now enjoyable. The activity level outside is on the rise and soon everyone will revel in the great weather again.  It’s a desert thing.

It’s like spring!

No matter where you live, embrace the seasons, enjoy the change.

Success is knowing when to enjoy the moment!

Think of what Autumn means to you. What moments will you be embracing this season?

How I turned $2 into $1000…OVERNIGHT!

In today’s economy you need obtain every advantage you can.  We are all taught to pay attention to the details. It’s the little things in life that make the difference. Well I have a story to help illustrate this point from a business perspective.

I am an electrician with a small business in the Sun Cities area of Phoenix. As many of you know Phoenix was hit especially hard by the housing market collapse. Competition has changed and the entire Trades industry has gone through a dramatic shift.

Now I have always focused on the small jobs folks just aren’t capable of doing themselves.  It’s a retirement community and word of mouth will make or break your business if you cater to this market. When I first started working in the area 15 years ago I was determined to build a good reputation.

Well here is my story:

The other day I was working for a client on a repair of a dryer outlet. The original connection had been wired up around the back door and kept in place with nails and an electrical box attached to the wall. Not cool. The house is being sold so it needed to be brought within code and my job was to fish the wires through the wall and install the outlet in the wall. As I did this I was able to reuse the receptacle and could have used the old wall plate as well. However, I chose to use a shiny new chrome wall plate that cost me $2.

The next morning I met the homeowner at the house to get paid. He was very excited with the shiny new wall plate and told me what a wonderful job I had done. Now I do a professional job and have a few tricks to make it nice and clean but his reaction was truly based on emotion. Emotion triggered by the shiny new wall plate! He then asked me to do another repair he needed to have done. This job had been up for bid and he decided because of my wonderful work he wanted me to do the job. This job was for $1000!

So here is the lesson:

Do that little “extra” thing when you think of it. You never know when or where that extra little touch will make the difference. In fact it can be the accumulation of such small things that actually gets you noticed. If you make it a habit to Go the Extra Mile, you will be the one they remember and get the attention you are striving for and the greater the chances you will achieve your goal.

This habit can be taken into any arena, personal development, marketing, primary and affiliate businesses and mlm’s, trades, professionals, and so on. The trick is to always do that extra little thing that only you think of that will make the experience unique or special.  You might have to make an investment, like the wall plate, or you might just have an idea that you can implement or share.

Details make it special or different in a way that shows you are doing the little extras worthy of attention. This will trigger the subconscious mind of your client that you get things done and done right. Isn’t that the true objective, to gain the trust of your client? Now go out there and do those little extras and CASH IN!  Cha Ching!
